The Cursa dels Nassos 2024 closes the Barcelona sports calendar with a historic participation record

The Race of the Noses 2024 was presented this Wednesday at the Olympic and Sports Museum of Barcelona Joan Antoni Samaranch with news and many possibilities to beat the women's record again in the 5K test which this year is again a mixed race modality . Currently, this race holds the men's world records with Berihu Aregawi's 12'49'' (2021) and Beatrice Chebet's women's non-mixed race with 14'13'' (2023). Likewise, the last edition of the Cursa dels Nassos was the best women's race in the world according to the ranking of World Athletics, the highest body of this sport, a fact that positions this sporting milestone among the elite of international athletics .

On the other hand, the popular 10K, the traditional event that closes the sports calendar in Barcelona, ​​has broken the record of people registered in its 26 editions and this year, two weeks before the Race, it has exhausted the 12,000 numbers available.

David Escudé, Councilor for Sports at the Barcelona City Council, has highlighted the female weight that has been achieved with this sporting event. "Among the thousands of races around the world, last year our Cursa dels Nassos de Barcelona in 5K was the best international women's event according to World Athletics. This recognition, which is like winning the Oscars of athletics, has encouraged us to keep working and improving. This year, in addition to being the most crowded edition, it will also be the most female edition in the history of our race, with a record participation of 35% by women.

The International 5K race will be at 4:20 p.m

As in the previous four editions, there will also be an international 5 kilometer race where world records were set in the men's and women's categories in 2021, and in the women's category in 2023 and which will be one of the highlights of the day .

This test, exclusively for elite athletes, will be mixed with departure at 16:20 hours. With this schedule, we want to make it easier for both the participants of the 10 kilometer race and for the public in general to enjoy the best athletes in the world competing in the streets of Barcelona.

In fact, this year, the presence of Beatrice Chebet, an Olympic athlete who is at her best after winning two gold medals at the last Olympic Games in Paris, in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, is already confirmed, and who , in addition, she was the winner of the 2023 Race of the Noses in 5K with the world record for this test with a time of 14'13'' (modality women's race). Medina Eisa, Melkanat Wudu and Esther Guerrero, also an Olympian, have also confirmed their attendance.

In the men's category, Olympic athlete Thierry Ndikumwenayo, who currently holds the Spanish 5K race record with a time of 13'17" and who, in addition to trying to beat the Nassos Race, has confirmed his attendance also his best time, he wants to achieve a European record. Accompanying him to the 5K, the athlete from Adessamat Oukhelfem will also compete.

In total, around 60 elite participants from around twenty different countries will take part in this 5 kilometer race which this year will be mixed and which, as in previous editions, will be quite a spectacle for athletics fans.

Precisely because of the elite competition, mobility will be affected in the Sant Martí district. For this reason, it is recommended to use public transport and, especially the metro, to approach or move around the competition area, since from 3.30pm the 5K circuit will be completely isolated.

The popular 10K will start at 5.15pm

Regarding the registrations for the Cursa dels Nassos for the popular 10 kilometer race, the more than 12,000 numbers have just been sold out. The female registration is 35% the highest in the history of this competition with more than 4,000 women at the start. We must also highlight a significant increase in the participation of new runners to enjoy the last day of the year.

With regard to the participation of elite athletes in the popular 10 kilometers, the presence of the winners of the past edition, Meritxell Soler and Mohamed El Ghazouany, stands out.
