The Cursa dels Nassos 2023 has been presented with new features and possibilities of once again breaking the women's record in the 5K event, which, like the men's record, is currently held by this event. The traditional event that closes the Barcelona sports calendar celebrates this year a very special 25th anniversary edition in which it is expected to once again exceed 10,000 runners with its traditional 10 kilometer route.
David Escudé, Councilor for Sports at Barcelona City Council, has highlighted the feminine weight that this year the Cursa dels Nassos has wanted to claim on the occasion of its 25th anniversary: “We want the Cursa dels Nassos 2023 to be the most feminine event in our history. On the one hand, we will have the three best athletes from the world championship last October, and they will be competing in Barcelona to set a new record and, possibly, we will also have a record for female participation in the popular event. At the moment, we are around 33% registered women, the highest figure achieved so far in this race.”
The International 5k test advances its schedule to 4:00 p.m.
As in the three previous editions, an international 5 kilometer race will also be held where in 2021 the world records were set in the men's and women's categories, still in force and which will be one of the highlights of the day. This test, exclusively for elite athletes, has been decided to open the competition and, therefore, the start time has been changed. At 4:00 p.m., it will be the start of the men's category and, at 4:25 p.m., the women's category will arrive with record options. With this new schedule we want to make it easier for both the participants of the 10K event and for citizens in general to enjoy some of the best athletes in the world competing in the streets of Barcelona.
In fact, this year, the presence of great athletes such as the best specialists in the world championship held last October in Riga (Latvia) has already been confirmed. The predictions of making history are once again very good in this category with the participation of Kenyan athletes Beatrice Chebet and Lilian Kasait, and the current record holder, Ethiopian Ejgayehu Taye. The goal is to once again beat the world record for this distance, which is 14'29'', this time in a race exclusively for women. The current 5k world record in a mixed race is made in the Cursa de les Nassos 2021, with the 14'19” of Ejgayehu Taye,

In the men's category, where the Cursa dels Nassos holds the world record with Berihu Aregawi's 12'49” in 2021, the participation also stands out, among others, of the refugee athlete from South Sudan living in Switzerland Dominic Lobalu with a better record in the distance of 12'52'' in the 5,000 meters. He will be accompanied by some of the best distance specialists, Olympic athletes and European medalists, among them 18 athletes who are certified to less than 14'00, such as the Spanish Ilias Fifa and Abdesamad Oukhelfen.
In total, about 70 elite runners from around twenty different countries will participate in this 5 kilometer event, a spectacle for athletics fans. Precisely, due to this advancement of the elite competition, mobility will be affected in the Sant Martí district. For this reason, the use of public transport and, especially the subway, is recommended to approach or move around the competition area, since from 3:30 p.m. the 5K circuit will be completely isolated.
Furthermore, with the aim that everyone can experience first-hand one of the most exciting races in the city and can witness the possible historical milestones of the athletes who will participate this New Year's Eve, the Cursa dels Nassos 5K International will be broadcast live through the websites: www.barcelona.cat/esports and www.cursadenassos.barcelona
The 10k distance will start at 5:15 p.m.
Registration for the Cursa dels Nassos for the popular 10 kilometer test is still open but, this year, it is being formalized more quickly than in previous years.
